Welcome to KnowTox. By using our app, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using KnowTox ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

KnowTox provides product information and ingredient analysis through barcode scanning. The App uses artificial intelligence to analyze products, and results may contain inaccuracies. The App analyzes three categories of products:

Food Products:

  • Ingredient identification and analysis
  • Allergen and additive information
  • Nutritional information and NOVA score
  • Diet compatibility assessment

Cosmetic Products:

  • Ingredient safety analysis
  • Skin and hair type compatibility
  • Certification information (vegan, cruelty-free, etc.)

Dietary Supplements:

  • Active ingredient analysis
  • Dosage information
  • Contraindication warnings
  • Potential drug interaction alerts

3. User Accounts

To access certain features, you may need to create an account. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your account
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Providing accurate and complete information

Health and Dietary Data

If you provide health-related information such as allergies, dietary restrictions, or health conditions to personalize your experience, this data may constitute special category data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). By providing this information, you give your explicit consent to its processing solely for the purpose of generating personalized alerts and product assessments. You may withdraw this consent and delete your health data at any time through the App settings. For full details on how we process your data, see our Privacy Policy.

Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated personal data at any time through the App settings or by contacting us at support@knowtox.app. Upon deletion, we will erase your personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws, subject to any legal retention obligations.

4. Subscription and Payments

Plans and Scan Limits

KnowTox offers the following monthly scan limits:

  • Free: 2 scans per month
  • Basic: 50 scans per month
  • Premium: 500 scans per month

Unused scans do not carry over to the next billing period. Scan limits reset at the beginning of each billing cycle.

Billing and Renewal

  • Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
  • Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date
  • Prices may change with prior notice; continued use after a price change constitutes acceptance

Cancellations and Refunds

  • You may cancel your subscription at any time through your App Store or Google Play settings
  • Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period; you retain access until then
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective refund policies

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits warranties that cannot be lawfully excluded or limited under applicable consumer protection laws.

6. AI-Generated Content and Product Scores

Nature of Scores and Analyses

Product scores, ratings, and analyses displayed in KnowTox are AI-generated opinions based on publicly available ingredient data, scientific literature, and regulatory databases. They represent an automated algorithmic assessment and:

  • Constitute opinions, not statements of fact. Scores reflect the AI's interpretation of ingredient data and should be understood as one perspective among many
  • Results may contain errors or inaccuracies
  • Analyses are based on available data and may not reflect the most current product formulations
  • AI recommendations do not constitute professional, medical, nutritional, or legal advice of any kind
  • Scores may differ from assessments by regulatory agencies, manufacturers, or other rating services
  • Individual health responses to products vary and cannot be predicted by any scoring system

Independence and Methodology

KnowTox operates independently from product manufacturers, brands, and retailers. Product scores are:

  • Generated solely by our AI algorithms without influence from any brand, manufacturer, or third party
  • Not subject to payment, sponsorship, or commercial arrangement with any product maker
  • Based on the same methodology applied equally to all products regardless of brand

No manufacturer, brand, or third party can pay to alter, improve, suppress, or remove a product score. KnowTox does not accept advertising or sponsorship from product manufacturers.

Brand Inquiries and Product Removal Requests

If a brand owner or authorized representative believes that the information displayed about their product is inaccurate, they may submit a correction or removal request by contacting us at support@knowtox.app. KnowTox will review such requests in good faith and take appropriate action where warranted.

7. Important Disclaimers

Medical Disclaimer

KnowTox is not a medical service. The information provided:

  • Is for informational purposes only
  • Should not replace professional medical advice
  • May not account for all individual health conditions
  • Should be verified with healthcare professionals for medical decisions

Always consult a healthcare provider for medical advice, especially regarding allergies, dietary restrictions, and health conditions.

Cosmetic Disclaimer

KnowTox provides general ingredient information for cosmetic products. This information:

  • Does not replace advice from a dermatologist or skincare professional
  • May not account for individual skin sensitivities
  • Should not be used to diagnose or treat skin conditions

Consult a dermatologist if you have specific skin concerns or conditions.

Supplement Disclaimer

KnowTox provides information about dietary supplements including potential drug interactions. This information:

  • Is not a substitute for professional medical advice
  • Should not be used to start, stop, or modify any medication
  • May not include all possible interactions
  • Is based on general information and may not apply to your specific situation

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking supplements, especially if you are taking medications, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have health conditions.

8. Accuracy of Information

While we strive to provide accurate product information:

  • Product formulations may change without notice from manufacturers
  • Database information may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect
  • Regional variations in ingredients and formulations may exist
  • Always verify information on product packaging
  • Manufacturer information takes precedence over App data

Ingredient Data

Ingredient lists, compositions, and nutritional data displayed in the App are sourced from third-party databases and user contributions. KnowTox does not independently verify every ingredient list and cannot guarantee that the ingredient data shown matches the actual contents of any specific product. Always read the product label before consumption or use, especially if you have allergies or sensitivities.

Personalized Alerts and Allergen Warnings

KnowTox may offer personalized alerts based on user-configured dietary preferences, allergen profiles, or health conditions. These alerts:

  • Are generated automatically based on available ingredient data, which may be incomplete or incorrect
  • Must not be relied upon as the sole source of allergen or safety information
  • May fail to detect allergens due to missing data, cross-contamination risks, undisclosed ingredients, or formulation changes
  • Do not account for trace amounts, manufacturing cross-contact, or "may contain" warnings unless explicitly listed in the source data
  • Cannot replace reading the physical product label or consulting with a medical professional

KnowTox does not guarantee that personalized alerts will identify all relevant allergens, ingredients, or health risks. Users with severe allergies or medical conditions must always verify product safety through product labels and healthcare professionals.

Warnings and Safety Assessments

Safety warnings, contraindication alerts, drug interaction information, and risk assessments provided by the App:

  • Are AI-generated based on general scientific literature and publicly available data
  • May not reflect the latest research, recalls, or regulatory updates
  • May not account for individual factors such as dosage, frequency of use, concurrent medications, or pre-existing conditions
  • Should never be used as a substitute for professional medical, pharmaceutical, or toxicological advice

Third-Party Data Sources

Product information displayed in the App may be sourced from third-party databases, open-source projects (such as Open Food Facts), regulatory databases, and other publicly available sources. KnowTox does not control or guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of third-party data. KnowTox is not responsible for errors, omissions, or inaccuracies in data provided by third parties.

9. Assumption of Risk

By using the App, you acknowledge and accept that:

  • Product analyses and scores are AI-generated opinions that may contain errors
  • The App is not a substitute for reading product labels, consulting healthcare professionals, or exercising your own judgment
  • You use the information provided by the App at your own risk
  • You are solely responsible for any decisions you make based on App information, including purchasing, consuming, or applying any product

10. User Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App
  • Interfere with the App's operation
  • Share your account credentials

11. Intellectual Property

KnowTox Content

All content, features, and functionality of the App — including but not limited to the AI scoring methodology, user interface design, text, graphics, and software — are owned by KnowTox and are protected by intellectual property laws.

Use of Product Information and Trademarks

Product names, brand names, logos, and trademarks displayed in the App belong to their respective owners. KnowTox uses this information solely for the purpose of identifying and reviewing products (nominative fair use). The display of any product or brand name does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation between KnowTox and the product manufacturer or brand owner.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, KnowTox shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages resulting from your use of the App. In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you paid for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

Specifically, KnowTox is not liable for:

  • Allergic reactions or adverse health effects, including those resulting from allergens not detected by the App
  • Failure of personalized alerts to identify allergens, harmful ingredients, or safety risks
  • Incorrect, incomplete, or outdated ingredient data
  • Inaccurate safety warnings, contraindication alerts, or drug interaction information
  • Skin reactions to cosmetic products
  • Adverse effects from dietary supplements
  • Drug interactions not identified or incorrectly assessed by the App
  • Any health decisions made based on App information
  • Any commercial impact, including but not limited to lost sales, reputational effects, or market changes, resulting from product scores or analyses displayed in the App
  • Decisions by users to purchase or not purchase any product based on App information

Fair Comment and Opinion

All product scores, analyses, and commentary provided by KnowTox are expressions of opinion based on publicly available data. They are provided in good faith for the purpose of helping consumers make informed choices. KnowTox exercises its right to provide consumer-oriented opinions about commercially available products, consistent with applicable fair comment and consumer protection principles.

13. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless KnowTox, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Any claim by a third party arising from your misuse of the App
  • Any unlawful activity conducted through your account

This section does not apply to the extent prohibited by consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction.

14. Age Restriction

You must be at least 14 years of age to use the App (or the minimum age required by data protection laws in your country of residence, if higher). If you are under 18, you represent that you have your parent or guardian's consent to use the App and agree to these Terms.

15. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the App after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree with the changes, you may stop using the App and request account deletion before the changes take effect.

16. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms, after providing notice where reasonably practicable. Upon termination:

  • Your right to use the App ceases immediately
  • Active subscriptions will not be renewed, but no partial refund is issued for the remaining billing period
  • You may request a copy of your personal data before or after termination in accordance with applicable data protection laws
  • Account data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable legal retention requirements

17. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where you reside, to the extent required by local consumer protection regulations.

For consumers residing in the European Union, nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under applicable EU consumer protection laws. You retain the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence. The European Commission provides an online dispute resolution platform at https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.

In accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU AI Act), KnowTox clearly identifies all product scores and analyses as AI-generated content throughout the App. The AI system used by KnowTox provides informational opinions about consumer products and does not make autonomous decisions affecting users' legal rights or access to essential services.

18. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving its original intent.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and KnowTox regarding your use of the App and supersede all prior agreements and understandings.
